Community events across the peninsula: free, and nobody checks
Cinema Under the Stars, the All Abilities Christmas Carols, barbecues and theatre trips, all free.
A few hundred neighbours on rugs in Mort Bay Park, waiting for it to get properly dark. A microphone at the carols that anyone who wants it can have. A barbecue that people walk past, smell, and join. None of our events need you to belong to anything first, and all of them are free. Dated events are listed on our Notice Board. Here is what to expect when you turn up.
Under the stars, and around the microphone
Cinema Under the Stars is our free outdoor film night at Mort Bay Park, Birchgrove. Gates open around six, the film starts when it is properly dark. Bring a rug, buy some popcorn, sit with a few hundred neighbours.
All Abilities Christmas Carols. Sydney's first all abilities carols started here in Rozelle, supported by Inner West Council for the International Day of People with Disability. Anyone who wants the microphone can have it. Bring a picnic.
Barbecues you can walk into
There is a monthly BBQ Hub at 754 Darling Street, and peninsula barbecues at Mort Bay that are open to anybody walking past. No ticket, no RSVP, no reason needed to come.
The barbecues are where a lot of first conversations happen. Somebody who would never come to a group will stand next to a grill and talk. That is partly why we keep running them.
Theatre, outings, and your ideas
There are free trips to Belvoir Theatre for pension card holders, and outings that come out of whatever the groups feel like doing. If you have an idea for one, we would rather hear it than plan it for you. A good number of things we run exist because somebody walked in with one.
Events at Mort Bay need booking, because there is nobody at a desk there. Everything at the hub is drop-in.
